Power To The Punter
Advice
As most bookmakers round fractions when they convert to decimals it is sometimes advantageous to take one as opposed to the other. Always check prices such as 5/6, 11/8, 13/8, 15/8 etc to see which offer the best value.
A lot of bookmakers now offer markets where the profit margins (or juice) are very low in order to attract trade. They can do this due to a combination of accurate points spreads and knowing when to move the line. Their other weapon is the liability level they place on the market. Work out which are the least profitable lines for the bookmaker and use this to your advantage. Usually they will be the more prominent sports such as Premiership football and if your a larger betting punter try and guage the normal liability levels for such markets so you can fly under the radar.

Football Coupons
High street bookmakers in the UK such as Ladbrokes, William Hill, Corals etc produce football coupons in their betting offices. The odds for the weekend coupons are complied on the Monday or Tuesday and then printed and delivered to the shops on the Wednesday or Thursday. These odds are then set in stone and the factors behind the odds can change before the matches are played. These can include injuries, new signings, players back from injury, new manager etc which obviously would affect the odds offered. Sometimes the bookmakers do alter the match prices but due to the hassle caused for the shop staff are mostly let through. Keep an eye on the football news and use these discrepancies to your advantage as they are good value bets to make.

Use Your Local Knowledge
If you follow your local sports team then you can use this to your profit. Be aware of anything that is likely to affect your team and bet on that advantage. Traders cannot know or don't have time to follow everything that occurs within a side especially teams in the lower divisions. For example, if that midfielder that makes your side tick gets injured or is likely to return from injury during the week then use this to make a value bet. Vice versa you can also look for changes to the opposing side which will affect the match. Read the local papers and look at the team websites for significant differences. Remember you are the one watching in the stadium every week which gives you a vastly increased knowledge to the traders who'll be basing most of their odds on match stats.
